Phoenix is located in the southern sky and consists of about 40 stars. The brightest are 7: Ankaa, Beta Phoenicis, Gamma Phoenicis and four stars in a multiple system called Wurren.
The constellation was considered a bird by various cultures – it was called: Firebird (China), Griffin, Eagle or Young Ostrich (Arabia). In ancient Egypt it was a sacred bird, pictured as a golden falcon with the head of a heron. In this form, he was considered an incarnation of the solar god Ra and the daily course of the sun, as well as the annual coming and going of the Nile. According to another legend, the phoenix was an impossibly beautiful bird that was said to live 500 years. He fed on drops of incense and the juices of cardamom. Toward the end of his life, he built a nest of cinnamon bark and incense, in which he died (according to some, in flames). And from its ashes a small phoenix was born, making it a symbol of resurrection and immortality.
